Addis Applauds Land Conservation Decision at Diablo Canyon

For immediate release:

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) applauded the decision by the California State Coastal Conservancy to award $42 million to the Wildlands Conservancy, a non-profit land trust, to purchase and conserve Wild Cherry Canyon surrounding the Diablo Canyon Power Plant:

"After over 25 years of local efforts, I am thrilled that nearly 2,200 acres of our Central Coast lands near Avila Beach at Wild Cherry Canyon will be preserved for future generations," said Addis. "Across every year in the State Legislature, I have worked to ensure needed funding for land acquisition was allocated and I am grateful for the State Coastal Conservancy's approval of $42 million for conservation today."

In 2024, Addis and the State Legislature included the initial $40 million for the acquisition of Wild Cherry Canyon. This August, the 2026 State Budget included $12 million for additional funding for land conservation and public access at both the Wild Cherry Canyon and North Ranch properties near the power plant.

Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
