Addis Speaks Out Against Drunk Driving

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay), joined Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine), Mothers Against Drunk driving (MADD), the Safe CA Roads Coalition, and state legislators at a Safer Roads press conference today to push for stronger DUI laws in California.

During the press conference, lawmakers announced bipartisan legislation aimed at cracking down on drunk driving. Proposals included new ignition interlock device requirements, stricter penalties and longer license suspension for offenders.

"DUIs are not victimless crimes," said Addis. "As a mother and a teacher, too many times I have seen children lost, families broken, and communities in mourning due to a murder at the hands of someone driving under the influence. This is the moment we have to ensure action. I look forward to supporting the efforts of the legislature and working towards making California’s roads safer for all."

Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
