MORRO BAY– Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) released the following statement following the U.S. military strike against Venezuela and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro:
"'E pluribus unum: out of many, one' guides our democracy and reminds us that our strength comes from shared responsibility and respect for the rule of law. While Venezuela’s leaders have caused immense harm to their own people, President Trump bypassing Congress and the American people in a direct takeover does not make us safer. We are a nation of laws, and the President must operate within, not outside of, them. American democracy is a flame that has never been blown out and we cannot allow one man's autocratic ideation to extinguish it now. Stay tuned next week for legislation I'm bringing forward to protect our democratic system."
Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
