Addis Releases Statement Following Coastal Commission Approval of Diablo Canyon Extension

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay), released the following the statement after the California Coastal Commission voted to approve continued operation of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant through 2030.

"I commend the Coastal Commissioners and their staff for in-depth consideration of mitigation under their purview. While many gains were made over the last month, full and fair mitigation remains incomplete. Today's mitigation did not accomplish the goal of conserving the full 12,000 acres of the Diablo Canyon lands that the community has asked for, for decades. Additionally, local government s and schools face historic deficits due to local communities being asked to subsidize PG&Es Diablo Canyon Power Plant operations while they operate virtually free of local taxes through 2030. Tremendous work remains to be done."

Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
