SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) released the following statement in response to new research led by san jose state university detailing the spread of toxic metals following the Moss Landing batter facility fire earlier this year:
"Today's finding from Dr. Ivano Aiello of San Jose State confirms what our community feared: the Moss Landing battery fire released toxic metals, including nickel, manganese, and cobalt, into one of the most environmentally sensitive areas on our coast.
Earlier this year, I pressed the CPUC to launch an independent investigation, and urged that the facility remain offline until the community's safety could be guaranteed. I also authored AB 1288, which the Governor signed, to increase the number of environmental health specialist so communities get timely, accurate data after disasters like this.
We must ensure that our policies and oversight keep pace with the rapid expansion of battery storage. I'll continue pushing for the safeguards our communities deserve."
